Growing Pains is a 3 part poster series that explores the challenges of becoming a modern day artist. These themes, represented in each poster, include making a living as an artist, overcoming stigma of choosing to pursue art, and pressure of being accepted by the art community. These issues are important to me as I feel that the reason for my art making has shifted away from the reasons why I began making art in the first place; art was just a creative outlet and a passion. The reason why I chose to use posters as a vehicle for my message is because I also wanted to pay homage to my sources of inspirations from childhood which include Japanese animation, Disney movies, and comic books. These inspirations also took the form of posters on my bedroom wall as a child which was why I thought it would be appropriate to reflect them in my project. The themes I am exploring are very personal to me and don’t necessarily apply to all young artists.
